Okinawa Gin is a fine craft gin made from 47 botanicals found on the subtropical island of Okinawa in Japan. This unique gin is infused with ingredients such as hibiscus and guava leaf, which are grown locally and harvested by hand. The distillery and Visit Okinawa Japan brought Capsule48’s video production house to Okinawa to capture the spirit of the island and translate the story of their gin for a global audience.
Client: Okinawa Gin
Production House: Capsule48
Services: Art Direction, Videography
Perfectly capturing the tropical climate of the Southern Japanese island, the botanical list features a variety of local ingredients. Shekwasha, guava leaves, and Balinese long pepper. The recipe also includes goya, the anti-aging, cucumber-shaped bitter melon from Okinawa, and a type of hibiscus called roselle.
Our team focused on transportive nature of spirits and how even a sip of the drink would welcome imbibers to the idea of Okinawa, due to the distinctive nature of the ingredients.
Capsule48’s video production team developed the concept and managed the entirety of the short film production, from the script, storyboarding, to the final cut. The shoot was an extensive and detailed process that took 4 days of video shooting.
Drawing parallels with the range of flavours in the gin, our crew worked with Okinawa Gin’s marketing department to secure talent and local faces that let the “spirit of Okinawa” shine through.
